چکیده

A test for the hypothesis of uniformity on a support S ⊂ R is proposed. It is based on the use of multivariate spacings as those studied in Janson (1987). As a novel aspect, this test can be adapted to the case that the support S is unknown, provided that it fulfils the shape condition of λ-convexity. The consistency properties of this test are analyzed and its performance is checked through a small simulation study. The numerical problems involved in the practical calculation of the maximal spacing (which is required to obtain the test statistic) are also discussed in some detail.

Testing uniformity for the case of a planar unknown support

A new test is proposed for the hypothesis of uniformity on bi-dimensional supports. The procedure is an adaptation of the “distance to boundary test” (DB test) proposed in Berrendero, Cuevas, & Vázquez-Grande (2006). This new version of the DB test, called DBU test, allows us (as a novel, interesting feature) to deal with the case where the support S of the underlying distribution is unknown. T...

Assessment the Performance of Support Vector Machine and Artificial Neural Network Systems for Regional Flood Frequency Analysis (A Case Study: Namak Lake Watershed)

Flood discharge estimation with different return periods is one of important factors for water structures design and installation. On the other hand, a lot of rivers existing in Iran watersheds have no complete and accurate hydrometric data. In these cases, one of the suitable solutions to estimate peak discharges with different return periods is the regional flood analysis. In this research, 5...

An application of principal component analysis and logistic regression to facilitate production scheduling decision support system: an automotive industry case

Production planning and control (PPC) systems have to deal with rising complexity and dynamics. The complexity of planning tasks is due to some existing multiple variables and dynamic factors derived from uncertainties surrounding the PPC. Although literatures on exact scheduling algorithms, simulation approaches, and heuristic methods are extensive in production planning, they seem to be ineff...

Optimal Stopping Policy for Multivariate Sequences a Generalized Best Choice Problem

In the classical versions of “Best Choice Problem”, the sequence of offers is a random sample from a single known distribution. We present an extension of this problem in which the sequential offers are random variables but from multiple independent distributions. Each distribution function represents a class of investment or offers. Offers appear without any specified order. The objective is...

Comparison of artificial neural network and multivariate regression methods in prediction of soil cation exchange capacity (Case study: Ziaran region)

Investigation of soil properties like Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) plays important roles in study of environmental reaserches as the spatial and temporal variability of this property have been led to development of indirect methods in estimation of this soil characteristic. Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) provide an alternative by estimating soil parameters from more readily available soil data...
